MIAMI BEACH, FL — A 35-year-old man jumped from a second-floor Miami Beach apartment window Friday morning following an hours-long standoff with Miami Beach police.

Deladiel Ernesto Caminero was taken into custody when he landed outside his apartment building in the 1500 block of Drexel Avenue, according to arrest documents. Police said they found seven dogs in Caminero's South Beach apartment, including two that were in poor health.

Miami Beach police said they initially received a report of gunshots at Caminero's building.

"As officers canvassed the area, they observed multiple expended casings from what appeared to be a pistol caliber round on the front of the building near the front entrance," arrest documents said. "Officers then heard a single shot from one of the top apartments."

One of the officers kicked in the front lobby entrance door and confronted Caminero as he was coming out of his apartment.

"Officers ordered the defendant to show his hands, which were hidden behind a concrete stair rail," arrest documents said. "The defendant slowly showed his hands as officers continued to give the defendant loud verbal commands. The defendant ignored the officers' commands and immediately re-entered the apartment, barricading himself in Apt. 4."

Police said Caminero was not armed when he initially stepped out of his apartment. Caminero was charged with possession of cocaine, discharging a firearm in public and resisting an officer without violence.

"While being interviewed, the defendant admitted to detectives post Miranda that he had been drinking and he went outside to the front of his apartment building in which then he discharged several shots into the ground with his firearm," court documents said.

Police said they found a black and silver Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun in Caminero's bedroom. They also said they found four plastic bags of what appeared to be cocaine elsewhere in the apartment.
