Miami-Dade Democratic Party Reports Suspicious Package

The package turned out to be bumper stickers, according to multiple news reports.

MIAMI, FL — Miami police were called to investigate a report of a suspicious package Wednesday less than a week after an Aventura man was charged in a terr0r-by-mail plot that targeted prominent Democrats across the country. Office workers at the Miami-Dade Democratic Party office phoned in the report of the suspicious package shortly before 12:30 p.m.

The small brown, cube-like box turned out to be bumper stickers, according to news reports.

"Nothing hazardous was located inside," said Officer Kiara Delva of the Miami Police Department. She said that the third floor and the sixth floor of the building were evacuated as a precaution.

"If it was an actual threat no one else would have been affected," Delva told Patch as to why the evacuation was limited to two floors.

Delva said that the office workers were concerned when the package arrived because they weren't expecting any deliveries on Wednesday.

The Democratic party office is located at 1951 NW 7 Avenue. The all clear was given after several hours.

"The package was rendered safe by our bomb squad," according to Delva.

Earlier Wednesday, Miami-Dade police responded to a bomb threat at Miami International Airport.

"We received a phone threat at MIA and are investigating the credibility of the phone threat," Detective Alvaro Zabaleta told Patch earlier in the day.

Detective Lee Cowart later added that police ruled the incident a hoax.

The Miami-Dade Democratic Party is located on the sixth floor of the Miami building. There were also other businesses in the building.
