Miami-Dade Police Warn Against Firing Guns In Air
Officials relaunched their annual initiative called, "One Bullet Kills the Party" ahead of this weekend's New Year's Eve celebrations.

MIAMI, FL — Miami-Dade officials are warning that anyone caught celebrating the New Year with a firearm may spend the long holiday weekend in jail. Officials relaunched their annual initiative called, "One Bullet Kills the Party" ahead of this weekend's New Year's Eve celebrations.
Prior years have had their fill of gunfire, not just on New Year's Eve but other holidays like the Fourth of July. Police will be using location targeting to identify people who fire weapons over the holiday weekend and they will also be stepping up patrols in areas that have had incidents in the past.
Detective Argemis Colome of the Miami-Dade Police Department told Patch that it is against the law to discharge a firearm during celebrations.

"These rounds are just going into the air," he said. "When they come down, they could kill anybody that it hits. That's why it's a big issue."
The initiative is endorsed by Miami's own Pitbull, who will be hosting a Miami New Year's eve celebration at Bayfront Park on Sunday night.
