Here are the top stories in Miami today:

1. A 19-year-old man, Jeremy Kamperveen, from Plantation faces charges after threatening to release faked sexually explicit photos of state Senator Lauren Book, reports said. Kamperveen was arrested November 17th at a Starbucks in Sunrise, where he thought he was meeting to pick up his cash. (Patch)

2. Miami-Dade County Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho is being knighted by Spain for his work in expanding Spanish-language programs. He will be admitted to the Order of Isabella the Catholic, an honor given to people whose work contributes to Spain and its culture. Carvalho has also been honored in the past by Mexico and Portugal. 3. Florida farmers told lawmakers this week that they continue to struggle moving perishable items with short shelf lives from fields to markets despite the supply chain improving. There are a number of changes being pitched to ease the pressure, such as lowering the age and hours of operation for commercial truck drivers. (CBS Miami)

4. A man with a fully loaded gun boarded a commercial flight this week and was able to fly to Miami from outside the United States in Barbados, NBC Miami discovered. The incident caused TSA to immediately trigger a probe into the security lapse. (NBC Miami)

5. The first building in a mixed-use Little Haiti project has been approved to proceed by the City of Miami's Urban Development Review Board. The project will transform about 37 parcels into a major development. The plan includes a maximum of 2,630 residences, hotel rooms, nearly 350,000 square feet of commercial-retail uses, and more than 1.9 million square feet of offices. (Miami Today)
