1. City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez says the city is working on a solution to rising rent costs, citing a number of new development projects. However, residents are skeptical that this will solve their increasing cost of living. The majority of high paying jobs have gone to out of towners who are moving to South Florida and creating an additional strain on the rental market by decreasing supply while driving up prices. 2. 9 Hooters locations will partner with the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida to offer in-person cookie sales and collect donations to meet their goal of providing 75,000 boxes of cookies to the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida’s Cookies for the Military program. The cookies will be sold at participating Hooters from February 1st through February 27th. (New Times Broward-Palm Beach)
3. Miami-Dade County Teen Court is currently holding virtual court sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5 p.m. now that is school is back in session and will not resume in-person sessions at its physical locations until further notice. The teen court is seeking adult and youth volunteers. (Miami-Dade County Government)
4. Bad Bunny announced a 29-stop stadium tour on Monday, complete with performances across the United States and Latin America. The reggaeton artists and rapper will be stopping in Miami for his second stop on August 12th at Hard Rock Stadium. Pre-sale tickets start today at 12 p.m. (NBC Miami)
5. The Miami-Dade School Board has voted 6-3 to select Dr. Jose Dotres as Miami-Dade County’s next school superintendent. It took the school board nearly 9 hours for members to go through the public comments and interview each of the 3 candidates before they voted. (WSVN)
