Here are the top stories today in Miami:

1. City of Miami commissioners voted this week to approve an ordinance that makes homeless encampments illegal. Activists rallied outside in protest, but it did not deter officials from passing the ordinance. (CBS Miami)

2. Almost 450,000 flood insurance policies in Monroe, Miami-Dade, and Broward counties will see an increase in premiums next year when FEMA moves to its new “Risk Rating 2.0” methodology. The increasing threat of sea level rise and heavier rainfalls brought on by climate change are the culprits. (NBC Miami)

3. The Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Biobank has reached a significant milestone in enrolling its 500th participant. Medical officials say understanding genetic variants and disease patterns in children will advance personalized medicine to better serve young patients. (Miami Today)

4. Miami Beach commissioners voted to reopen Ocean Drive to vehicular traffic this week, according to reMiamiBeach. The street was closed to cars in May 2020 due to the pandemic as part of plan for expanded seating areas for restaurants to help them during a difficult time. The street is only open in a single lane of traffic for now. (The Next Miami)

5. Latin Restaurant Week is coming for the second year in a row at over 30 Miami-Dade locations. The event will run from November 1st to November 15th and guests can enjoy deals all over Miami-Dade County. This year the Miami Dolphins are also joining the fun as well. (WSVN)
