SUNNY ISLES BEACH, FL — Gunfire erupted outside the Trump International Beach Resort Sunday afternoon as rapper NBA YoungBoy was making his way out of the oceanfront complex near Miami with an entourage, Miami-Dade police confirmed Monday night.

The rapper, whose real name is Kendrell DeSean Gaulden, was not injured in the hail of gunfire but a Hertz rental car worker was struck and killed by a stray bullet that traveled from the hotel across busy Collins Avenue and into the parking lot of a strip mall. The rapper's 19-year-old girlfriend was also wounded and a 5-year-old boy was grazed in an exchange of gunfire between legally armed members of YoungBoy's entourage and someone in an SUV.

"Further investigation has revealed that a black Cadillac Escalade was traveling northbound on Collins Avenue," said Detective Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department Monday night, adding that someone in the Escalade opened fire, striking Kaylyn Marie Long and grazing the child.

"The black Cadillac Escalade fled in an unknown direction and remains at large," Zabaleta said.

Police believe the bullet that killed the Hertz worker came from one of the shots fired by NBA YoungBoy's group. They won't be charged since they were firing in self-defense.

The gunfire sent bystanders running for cover as Mother's Day celebrations were taking place all around this affluent beach community at a number of nearby restaurants along the heavily-traveled strip that was filled with beachgoers.

"This type of behavior in this community is not acceptable," Sunny Isles Beach Mayor George "Bud" Schol told reporters. Sunny Isles is about 11 miles north of Miami Beach.

Meanwhile, police in the neighboring community of Aventura were attempting to determine if a shooting that took place on the westbound exit ramp of the William Lehman Causeway about 1:30 p.m. was related to the shooting outside the Trump hotel, which took place about 10 minutes later at 1:41 p.m. A driver of a vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries in the Aventura shooting, according to Major Michael Bentolila of the Aventura Police Department.

"We hope to know what was it that led to this shooting that took the life of an innocent man that was simply working on Mother's Day, and almost took the life of a five-year-old," said Zabaleta outside the Trump resort.

The Hertz worker killed in the attack was identified as 43-year-old Mohamad Jradi. A sign on the door said the business was closed Monday due to "unforeseen circumstances" and referred customers to another location.

The rapper's girlfriend was taken to Aventura Hospital. The child who was grazed was treated by fire rescue personnel at the scene and released.

Zabaleta also said that homicide investigators had interviewed and released 11 people as of Monday night, including four people in a GMC Yukon who were detained as they were pulling into a parking lot for the Rolling Loud Music Festival.
