17-year-old Jatavious Williams was gunned down as he sat on a park bench.

HOMESTEAD, FL — Two teenagers were charged with murder on Wednesday in connection with the weekend slaying of 17-year-old Jatavious Williams, who was gunned down as he sat on a park bench. The incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the area of Blakey Park at 600 SW 14 Avenue.

Miami-Dade police said on Wednesday afternoon that they had charged a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy with second-degree murder. Patch is withholding their names because they are juveniles.

"Upon their arrival, the officers located the victim in the park, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds," explained Detective Argemis Colome of the Miami-Dade Police Department, who said that Williams was pronounced dead on the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

"Investigation revealed that three unknown black male subjects arrived on foot to the park and approached an associate of the victim," Colome said. "The subjects observed the victim sitting on a bench at a distance away and called out to him, at which time words were exchanged."

When Williams stood up, the two boys "produced handguns, and shots were fired, striking the victim," Colome said, adding that the assailants managed to get away on foot.
