Arrest Made In New Port Richey Stabbing

A 23-year-old man is accused of stabbing a friend to get his Dilaudid pills.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — A 23-year-old Port Richey man faces aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charges after Pasco County deputies say he repeatedly stabbed a friend early Tuesday morning.

The incident that led to Nickolas Ryan Barrington’s arrest unfolded around 2:30 a.m. April 25. Deputies say Barrington was at a home in the 6000 block of Westside Drive in New Port Richey hanging out with friends.

“Out of nowhere, Nickolas became aggravated” and began attacking another man with a knife, the county’s arrest report said. The victim was struck several times by the knife, the report noted, while Barrington allegedly yelled, “I gotta kill you, it’s the ice,” the report said.

The commotion woke up a woman who was sleeping in the home, the report added. The woman later told deputies she saw Barrington attacking the victim as he demanded Diluadid pills, the report said. The victim, who is not being identified by Patch, reportedly gave Barrington some Dilaudid, which stopped the attack.

Following his arrest, deputies say Barrington admitted to attacking the mam to “take all of his Dilaudid and overdose on it.”

Barrington was booked into the Land O’ Lakes Jail following his arrest. The condition of the victim is not known, but authorities say he suffered cuts to his face, wrists and chest.

Dilaudid is an opioid medication that is prescribed for the treatment of pain. Also known as hydromorphone, it is also frequently used illegally and is known to have a high risk for addiction.
