Car Submerged In New Port Richey Canal After Owner Overdoes On Opioids
The New Port Richey police are investigating a crash in which a car ended up partly submerged in a canal.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — The New Port Richey police are investigating a crash in which a car ended up partly submerged in a canal.
On Sunday at 8:57 p.m., police and firefighters responded to the southern end of Blue Harbor Drive after a gray Infinity driven by Vincent Monroe, 36, went over a seawall. Police found the car with the rear tires on the edge of the seawall and the hood completely submerged, with the passenger compartment filling with water.
Police said Monroe was bent over, completely unconscious.

Police officers entered the water, broke open a window to gain entry and pulled Monroe out of the car. Monroe showed signs of a possible opioid overdose and Narcan was immediately administered by police and fire rescue personnel. After a short time, Monroe regained consciousness.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment and then charged with driving under the influence with property damage, possession of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia.
