City Could Investigate Exiting Red Light Camera Program
Deputy Mayor wants the city to take a look this budget season at what it would take to get out of it

After hearing residents' concerns about New Port Richey's red light camera program, deputy Mayor Bill Phillips said Tuesday, June 18, that he wants the city to take a look this budget season at what it would take to get out of it. Look for more information soon.
People who spoke out against the city red light camera program included former city council candidate Michael Malterer, resident Danielle Alexandre and well-known Libertarian Alex Snitker.
New Port Richey issued fewer citations for red light camera tiickets this year than it needs to be profitable, City Finance Director Doug Haag revealed last month. At the the most recent accounting, the program was $800,000 short of the $1.6 million in revenue it is expected to generate this year.
There is also a backlog of court cases.
