Florida Man Dances In Street, Goes To Jail

A Holiday man's decision to bust a move in a busy intersection landed him in jail on Thursday. Deputies say it was the third time.

HOLIDAY, FL — A 57-year-old Holiday man’s decision to dance in public landed him on the wrong side of the law Thursday evening. It’s not necessarily that Pasco County deputies were opposed to Edward Anthony Rose Jr.’s moves, it was his venue of choice that raised alarm bells.

According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy was out on patrol shortly after 9 p.m. July 6 when he spotted Rose “dancing in the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and Alt. U.S. 19 in front of traffic.” Consequently, the deputy stopped and asked Rose what was going on.

Rose told the deputy he “was dancing in the road trying to get money for his friend he owes,” an arrest report said. While paying back a friend might be a good thing, dancing in an intersection is frowned upon, authorities say.

Rose, a native of Chicago, was subsequently arrested and charged with trespassing. The sheriff’s office says he was booked into the Land O’ Lakes Jail following his Thursday night arrest.

Thursday’s encounter with Rose wasn’t the agency’s first, the arrest report noted. It seems Rose had been arrested at the exact same location for similar offenses back in November 2016 and again on June 10. Authorities say Rose has no known address but frequents the Holiday area.

Rose isn’t the only Florida man to find himself behind bars after busting moves in public. Back in May, a Pasco County deputy had a run-in with a man accused of crashing into a cruiser before getting out and dancing in the street. The man was wearing only boxer shorts at the time. Last summer, a Cape Coral man was accused of paying a Lee County Sheriff’s deputy a visit at his home and then proceeded to use a marked patrol SUV as his own personal stage. That incident was captured on surveillance video from a nearby home.
