Highway Patrol: Driver Took Out Gulf Harbors' Power

A car went off the road and crashed into a utility pole in Gulf Harbors early Sunday morning. Power lines were knocked down as a result and an area transformer was damaged, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers. 

The electrical system sustained more than $20,000 in damage, according to the highway patrol. About Sunday morning from the incident, according to Progress Energy.

At around 5:20 a.m., Juliann Sarah Olds, 23, was driving a 2002 Honda Accord westbound on Floramar Terrace when she tried to negotiate a left turn. She was “driving too fast for conditions” and lost control of the vehicle, according to troopers.

The vehicle went off the road and collided with a road sign and then hit a utility pole. The car overturned after hitting the pole.

Olds and passenger Heather Marie Skipper, 25, fled on foot but were later located by Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies, the highway patrol report said.

Olds, of New Port Richey, and Skipper, of Tampa, sustained minor injuries. Skipper was taken to a local hospital.

Olds was charged reckless driving and leaving the scene after a crash.
