Hudson Brush Fire Closes New York Avenue Stretch

Motorists are being advised to steer clear of a stretch of New York Avenue Wednesday evening.

HUDSON, FL — A new brush fire that cropped up in Hudson Wednesday has forced the closing of New York Avenue from Old Dixie Highway to U.S. 19, according to Pasco County officials.

The fire reportedly broke out in the area north of New York Avenue.

Pasco Fire Rescue, Florida Forest Service and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene. It is unclear how the fire started or how many acres are affected. Just how long the road will remain closed is also unknown at this time.

On Wednesday, Pasco County Commissioners also issued a countywide burn ban in light of recent wildfire activity. Gov. Rick Scott on Tuesday declared a state of emergency as an estimated 100 wildfires burned across Florida.

The Hudson fire is the fourth rescue crews were working throughout the county on Wednesday.
