Man Named Trigger Shot Then Arrested

An accidental shooting at a Hudson Dollar General store led to the 'victim's' arrest, Pasco deputies say.

HUDSON, FL — A 35-year-old Port Richey man is in hot water after Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies say he managed to shoot himself inside a Dollar General store over the weekend.

According to the agency, Jason Trigger went inside the 11928 U.S. 19 store in Hudson on June 11, but he didn’t really get an opportunity to shop for any bargains. “Upon entering the store, a .25 caliber handgun fell from his waistband, landed on the floor and discharged into his right ankle,” an email from the sheriff’s office said.

Trigger, authorities noted, left the business right after the shooting and later turned up at Bayonet Point Hospital for treatment. While hospital staff helped take of his injuries, deputies charged Trigger for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Pasco County Jail records show he also faces carrying a concealed firearm charges.

“Trigger has multiple prior felony convictions,” the agency noted in its email. Jail records show he’s no stranger to the correctional facility in Land O’ Lakes. He’s been booked in six times in the past, dating back to 2009.

Prior to the accidental shooting, Trigger was last arrested in February 2017 on drug-related charges.
