Pasco School Rezoning Plan Voided By Judge
The Pasco County School Board voted last year on rezoning that would ship students from Mitchell High to River Ridge High.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL - A school board rezoning decision that would ship hundreds of students to different schools has been rejected by a Pasco judge. The Pasco County School Board voted last year on rezoning that would ship students from Mitchell High to River Ridge High. The decision was part of efforts to ease overcrowding in schools in west Pasco County.
Judge Kimberly Sharpe Byrd ruled against the decision, saying some members of an advisory committee conducted business in private, violating the state's Sunshine Law, Bay News 9 reported. Parents filed a complaint in court, saying they were kept in the dark on details of the rezoning plans.
"We respect the process, but we’re disappointed in the ruling," said school district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe. "We are discussing next steps among staff, and will be consulting with the School Board and the School Board attorney."
