Pelo's Salon Owner Familiar Face in Community

Maria Dolinar opened the new business May 13.

Pelo’s Barber and Hair Salon is a new shop on Main Street in New Port Richey, but its owner isn’t new to the community.

Maria Dolinar has lived in the area for several years. She used to be an owner of the Academy of Hair Design West on State Road 54 in New Port Richey, a barber school.

Dolinar is originally from Colombia. She moved to America in 2000 and lived in Chicago for a time. She was initially involved in the importing and exporting trade, but said the salon world appealed to her because she likes talking to and interacting with people.

She moved to West Pasco a few years ago and just opened the doors on Pelo's on May 13. The new shop employs contract staff to serve customers and Dolinar also cuts hair herself.

Business has been slow at Pelo’s, but Dolinar acknowledges the shop is new. Her dream is to be busy everyday and to grow the business so that she can employ more people.
