Cut the wasteful spending and eliminate some of the 60 thou a year cronie positions.

I would like to see them stop pulling up trees, brushes, and plants that have nothing wrong with them!!! and for gods sake, turn off the water fall on Missouri Ave and leave the plants alone!!! I work across the street from the beautiful court yard, since December, the only people who use it are teens ( which respect it) and drunks from the bars using the waterfall as a bathroom!!! Why not have weekly events in the unused space ??? Charge vendors???? Crafts, Foods, Arts, Let schools or the library host work shops ??? Its just sitting there, with its water running, and now they pulled all the plants out.. with backhoes how much did that cost????

It is easy to arm chair quarterback and make unfounded statements about there being enough money or how we can save a million and a half dollars by cutting $60k crony positions. I'm going to be spending my Sunday afternoon starting the slog of going through this disaster of a budget line by line. You can send you SPECIFICS to me at marlower@cityofnewportrichey.org. My goal is to make sure we don't follow Stockton California over the financial cliff. If you've got REAL CONCRETE ideas and not just spouting talk radio nonsense, I want to hear from you with details on what you would eliminate or who you would let go to balance the budget to save $1-1.5 million dollars.

Copies of the budget should be available for review at the New Port RIchey Public Library. You will have to wait until tomorrow to look at it there since we've already closed the library on Sundays to save money.

On a proposal to dump theservice.

I have been doing tree work in pasco for over 30 years . I have always wondered why the city of new port richey paid to pick up peoples debris at the side of the road??? I cannot tell you how many times the city has picked up debris cut by private tree companies . The city must know this ? I think they did it to avoid losing money in the budget . If I was the supv of the city I would of made sure the home owners were fined if they allowed private companies to leave the debris they cut at these peoples homes . It was my understanding this service was for debris cut by the home owners only ??? Home owners have told me they got such a cheap estimate for the tree work because the private company is leaving all the debris. This is something I would never do knowing the the cities policy on this. Iam sure if they got a handle on this they might not have to cut the service altogether. The city is looking the other way on this , WHY ???

Mike, what you say doesn't surprise me at all. The govt in this country, from local to state to federal are all inept. We continue to have money stolen from us for services such as this????????? Crazy............but nothing out of the ordinary.

There was a guy who collected his dead fathers SSI checks for 30+ years.....guess how the Govt found out, HE DIED!!!!

Suggestions were made all of the time to charge a nominal fee for the service but the powers to be would rather threaten to eliminate the service instead. It took a crew of three to go around the city to pick up brush but with minimum staffing and too many do nothing supervisors there arent enough employees to do all of the jobs as it is. The former Department Head promoted a bunch of his lackeys in positions that had no requirements other that be yes men.
