5 Things: Crime Reports, 'Shrek' Visit, Casey Anthony Prosecutor

Sarasota is hit with more violence. The lead prosecutor in the Casey Anthony trial is in town. 'Shrek,' the Musical is at the Van Wezel.

1. We’re still awaiting details on two deaths reported inside a home Tuesday afternoon at the 4000 block of Carriage Drive, south of Bee Ridge Road. The deaths — a man and woman — occurred at 3 p.m. Tuesday and names have not been released. The Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation on the deaths. Stay with Patch for more details as we receive them.

2. for two nights only at Van Wezel. The giant Ogre is surrounded by his fellow friends, and tickets are available for $30 to $75. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

3. The lead prosecutor in the Casey Anthony trial offers a talk today. Jeff Ashton will be at Selby Library’s Geldbart Auditorium at 5 p.m. to talk about his book “Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony.” It’s free to attend. Call 941-365-7900 for more information.

4. Lego Man washes up on the No. 2 spot of Time magazine’s Top 10 Oddball-News Stories of 2011. Meanwhile, The Herald-Tribune is receiving Lego Man fan mail from France and Germany demanding his release.  There’s always room for another twist in this story.

5. Today’s your day if you want to adopt a dog. (Perfect Christmas gift. Just saying.) The Sheriff’s Office Animal Services had a large number of dogs come into its shelter last week and starting today some of the 16 pups and dogs are available to be adopted. A litter of lab mix puppies will be available for adoption once they are old enough.
