ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A crash involving a flatbed truck and an SUV on Interstate-275 Wednesday morning had lanes blocked for a couple hours, Florida Highway Patrol said.
A 75-year-old man of St. Pete drove a truck at 2:26 a.m. on I-275 northbound in the inside center lane near Ulmerton Road. A Toyota 4-Runner, driven by a 32-year-old Apollo Beach man, sped simultaneously in the same lane as the truck, detectives said. Then the SUV pulled in front of the truck and the other driver did not slow down. According to authorities, the truck then smashed into the back of the Toyota forcing it to crash into a concrete barrier at the Ulmerton Road overpass.
Construction materials fell from the truck onto the interstate during the crash. The truck stopped blocking the inside lane following the crash, deputies said. Lanes reopened at 5 a.m.
