Baby Killed In Crash, Father Later Captured By Police

A man who is charged with vehicular homicide had been on the run from St. Petersburg cops for about 19 days after his daughter's death.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg police and Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 21-year-old St. Pete man Wednesday night on charges of leaving the scene of a crash that killed his baby on July 30.

Police accused Willy Lloyd of speeding in a 2017 Nissan Rogue with his baby's mother, Maliyah Waters, 18, their 1-year-old baby, Lloyd's cousin, Mar'Rion Heatley, 16 and two other people. None of them were wearing seatbelts, according to authorities. Lloyd drove at 76 mph in a 45 mph stretch of Tyrone Boulevard North when he tried to pass between two vehicles and stuck a grey car, investigators said.

He lost control of the SUV and when it hit a tree, Lloyd's cousin, Heatley, and a 3-year-old were thrown from the vehicle. The Rogue stopped in a front yard near Tyrone Boulevard and Norfolk Street. Lloyd ran from the crash location, and was later found inside a vehicle near St. Petersburg General Hospital. He drove off and got away from police.
