Bicyclist Dies From Injuries, Police Say

Joshua David Gaddy, 27, of Pinellas Park died Saturday morning at a local hospital after being hit by an SUV driven by a St. Petersburg resident Friday night, police say.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica, John Patrick Campbell, of St. Petersburg, was heading southbound on Park Street, just north of 46th Ave North in Seminole, when Gaddy road his bike in Campbell's path. It happened just after 10:30 p.m.

Gaddy was ejected from the bicycle and sent to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries Friday night. Saturday morning, officials released that he had died at the hospital.

Officials say Gaddy was crossing mid-block, not in a crosswalk and did not have the right of way. His bicycle was not equipped with lights or reflectors, police say.

It does appear that alcohol and/or controlled substances are a factor in the
crash, as to the bicyclist but not the driver of the vehicle, police say.

The investigation continues.
