Car Plows Into St. Pete Home

A 40-year-old woman faces DUI charges after her Toyota slammed into a St. Pete home Saturday morning.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 40-year-old St. Petersburg woman was charged with DUI after police say she “barreled” into the front of a home in the 3800 block of 17th Avenue North Saturday morning.

According to police, there were nine people inside the home just after 8 a.m. June 10 when Elaine A. Riberio lost control of her vehicle. Police say none of the residents were injured, but officers who responded to their call for help noticed the driver’s “actions and behavior” at the scene were off.

Police say they suspected Riberio was “under the influence of a chemical or controlled substance.” Riberio, however, refused to provide a urine sample or to perform field sobriety tests. She was taken into custody following that refusal on a charge of DUI.
