Florida Gas Prices Are At All New High For 2021: AAA

As Floridians have continued to see rising gas prices throughout the state in October, drivers could finally experience stabilized prices.

FLORIDA — Florida's state average gas price has reached a new 2021 high as of Monday, and the most expensive daily average price since October 2014, an AAA news release said.

Over the weekend Florida gas prices stabilized after rising another 13 cents last week. The state average is $3.31 per gallon, according to AAA. Gas prices throughout the state have increased a total of 26 cents from Oct. 1 to Oct. 25. The state average has increased a total of $1.12 per gallon since Jan. 1. Drivers are paying $1.23 per gallon more than Oct. 2020, and 89 cents more than the same time in 2019.

"Gas prices have been dragged higher by skyrocketing crude oil prices," Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman, said. "Crude oil prices have faced tremendous upward pressure, because global fuel demand is outpacing global production and supply levels. Although oil prices increased again last week, it was by a smaller margin than the weeks before. Fortunately, gasoline futures held steady. So even if gas prices increase again this week, it shouldn't be as significant of a jump as what drivers have experienced so far this month."

U.S. crude oil prices has increased 76 percent this year, Jenkins said. Prices were $47 per barrel at the beginning of the year. A week ago prices were at $84 per barrel. Friday's closing price of $83.76 per barrel is $1.48 more than a week prior.

Jenkins said an uneventful week in the gasoline futures market could mean good news for motorists. Gasoline futures finished the week one cent lower than the previous week. According to AAA, this is a positive indicator that retail pump prices could stabilize before the week is out.
