Police: Gibbs High Student Brought Gun, Marijuana to School

Two students were found smoking in a concession stand at the athletic fields, according to St. Petersburg Police. A loaded gun was found in one of the student's backpacks.

Two teenage Gibbs High School students have been arrested after a school resource officer investigating a break in at the athletic field concession stand found the two students inside smoking marijuana and carrying a gun.

When authorities searched the first suspect’s backpack Tuesday morning, a loaded .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun was found inside, according to St. Petersburg Police.

The first 16-year-old suspect was arrested and will be charged Tuesday with possession of a firearm on school grounds, carrying a concealed firearm, armed commercial burglary, possession of marijuana and violation of probation, police said.

Within the last year, the teen has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, assault on a school board employee, battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of marijuana and burglary, police said. 

Police say the second juvenile suspect, who is 17, is charged with armed commercial burglary, possession of marijuana and trespass on school grounds.
