Hero Story: St. Pete Officer Saves 10-Year-Old Choking On Food

The officer heard someone say 'he's choking' and realized that a young boy wasn't breathing.

ST. PETERSBURG - Police Officer Kurt Bradshaw was on his lunch break at the Chik-fil-A on 4th Street in St. Pete on July 21 when he heard a commotion in another part of the restaurant. The officer was alerted to a potential problem and someone was saying, "he's choking." He realized that a young boy wasn't breathing.

This story has a happy ending, however. Bradshaw moved through the crowd, grabbed the boy from his seat and administered the Heimlich maneuver.

Once the boy was breathing, Bradshaw requested St. Pete Fire Rescue and remained with him, making sure he continued to breath and calming the boy's family.
