FL Motorcyclist Heads To Prison For Teen’s 2023 Death During Illegal Street Racing Event

A man will spend time between bars after he hit and killed a teenager during a 2023 illegal street racing event in St. Pete, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A motorcyclist is heading to prison after hitting and killing a teenager during an illegal street racing event in January 2023, St. Petersburg police wrote in a Facebook post.

Carlos Fernandez, 23, was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison for the deadly crash.
This will be followed by 13 years of probation.

Just after midnight on Jan. 29, 2023, a crowd gathered on 28th Street N. near 110th Avenue N. for illegal street racing, police said.

The boy was killed in the crash.

His father, Johnny Julio Martin, was also arrested and charged with felony child neglect and street racing as a spectator, a moving violation citation.
