Man In Wheelchair Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver
St. Petersburg Police are investigating a Wednesday night hit-and-run that left a man critically injured.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A Wednesday night hit-and-run crash in the 1300 block of 34th Street North has St. Petersburg Police on the hunt for a four-door sedan and its driver.
According to the agency, a man in a wheelchair was crossing 34th Street North in the crosswalk at the intersection of 13th Avenue North around 10:08 p.m. June 7. The southbound traffic light was red when the man began moving west through the crosswalk, the agency reported in an email to media. The light, however, turned green by the time the man reached the southbound lanes.

As the man was still in the southbound lanes, a vehicle moved forward and failed to yield, the email said. The man was struck and thrown from his wheelchair. The motorist, police said, kept on going.
The man was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are believed to be life-threatening. His name has not yet been released.

Police say the vehicle believed to be involved is a four-door sedan, possibly silver in color. The vehicle has likely front-end damage, police said.
