Attempted Murder Charge Filed In Shooting Death: St. Pete Police

A man was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of another man in St. Petersburg, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A man was arrested and charged in the shooting death of a 44-year-old man, St. Petersburg police said in a news release.

A neighbor contacted police on Oct. 30 just before 9 p.m. to report that Jerome Smith was found bleeding at his home in the 800 block of 21st Avenue South. Nobody was home with Smith at the time.

Police found him in his home with a gunshot wound, but still alive, police said.

He was brought to a local hospital and died Sunday from his injuries.

Investigators learned that Smith and the shooter, 47-year-old Jerome Smith, knew each other and that a dispute at Smith’s home escalated, police said.

Smith was charged with second-degree murder.
