OMG! Should Florida Ban Texting While Driving?

The Florida Senate unanimously passed a bill this week to make it illegal to text while driving. But there is a catch.

Warning, do not text the following news to friends or colleagues, if you're driving: Florida may soon make it illegal to text and drive at the same time.

On Tuesday, April 16, the Florida Senate unanimously approved Senate Bill 52, according to the Bradenton Herald. First-time violators face a $30 fine plus court costs. Subsequent offenses would penalize drivers with three points on their driver license and include a $60 fine.

But here's the catch: A Senate bill would ban the practice as a "secondary offense," meaning that violators first must be stopped for another offense. The driver would be cited if the officer also observed the motorist texting while driving.
