'People's Trash' Campaign Urges Better Recycling

Several community groups are calling on St. Petersburg to improve its recycling program.

Several community-minded groups are urging St. Petersburg's leaders to improve the city's recycling program.

Supporters held a press conference Tuesday in front of City Hall to officially launch the "People's Trash" campaign, which will advocate for universal curbside recycling.

  • St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce,
  • Suncoast Sierra Club
  • League of Women Voters.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Karen Coale, with the League of Women Voters, said St. Petersburg has fallen behind other municipalities in efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle.

She said that improved recycling with yield cost savings.

St. Petersburg has designated areas, with silver bullets, for dropping off paper, plastic and metal products. Residents can pay for curbside service and are issued a blue tray for pickup.
