Police: Man, Woman Shot By Officers While in Stolen Vehicle

The two people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, St. Petersburg Police said.

A man and a woman were shot by police officers who confronted them while they were in a stolen vehicle, St. Petersburg Police said Monday.

Both people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, according to a media release from a police spokesperson.

The two were in a stolen vehicle parked in an alley in the 1800 block of 26th Street South when officers attempted to make an arrest, police said. As officers approached, "the male driver gunned the vehicle," a spokesperson said.

Two or three of the officers discharged their weapons toward the vehicle. The woman was struck in the arm; the man was also shot.

According to police, the man fled on foot but has since been taken into custody. The woman was taken to Bayfront Medical Center.
