Photos: Rowdies Win Home Opener

Saturday night's match against Edmonton boosted the boys for a promising season.

Green smoke, yellow face paint and chants resembling a tribal-like thunder: that's what you get a dose of at a Rowdies game. At Saturday night's home opener, a 1-0 victory over FC Edmonton got the season started in style.

Fans of the famed football club are loyal to the core and wear the colors proudly, all season long.

The home opener on Saturday night was no exception. Tailgate parties filled the Al Lang Stadium parking lot, hours before the first whistle. Fans prepped each other with face paint and cheers that could be heard from miles away.

In the first half, Rowdies midfielder Takuya Yamada put a right footed rocket past the Edmonton keeper to make it a 1-0 game. The rest of the match went scoreless. Suprisingly, both teams produced a number of threatening attempts on goal, but could not find the net.

On Wednesday, the Rowdies have another home game and will be playing the Carolina RailHawks. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at Al Lang Stadium.
