St. Pete Bicyclist Shot In Robbery

St. Petersburg Police are looking for a man accused of shooting a bicyclist early Tuesday morning.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating an early Tuesday morning shooting that left a bicyclist injured.

According to the agency, a man in his late 50s was riding his bicycle at the intersection of Ninth Street South and 20th Street around 5:17 a.m. May 2. Police say a younger man, also on a bicycle, approached the first, pulled out a gun and tried to rob the older man.

“The older man resisted and a struggle ensued,” an email from the police department said. The older man was shot in the ankle before the younger man rode away on his bicycle, the agency noted.

The victim, who is not being identified, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect is in his late 20s to early 30s. He is a black male who stands about 6 feet tall and has a slender build. The man was wearing a stocking cap and a track suit, according to police.
