People came out in droves this past weekend to visit The Pier one last time before its scheduled closing.
The Pier held its last party. The City will shutter the 1970s structure after May 31, with the St. Petersburg Council voting to tear down The Pier, even as groups of citizens push for a citywide vote and protest plans for its ultra-mod $50 million replacement, dubbed The Lens.

With the future uncertain, locals already are sentimental about the past and what The Pier had to offer: plenty of good fishing, a feed the pelicans dockside attraction, and a place to grab a Coke or a meal and enjoy one-of-a-kind views of Tampa Bay and downtown.
