FAU Insists Puerto Rican Honor Grad & Disabled Veteran Isn't a Citizen

During application process, the veteran attempted to redo a class he didn't have enough time to withdraw from before enlisting for Iraq War.

Absolute chaos and what military veterans refer to as 'helmet fire' is only what the Office of the Registrar at FAU's main campus in Boca Raton could have experienced during this absolutely insulting move towards a Puerto Rican disabled veteran.

After submitting all of the necessary paperwork, including military documents, to apply to re-take one undergraduate course, FAU labeled the veteran as a Foreigner and NOT a US Citizen because the veteran was born in Puerto Rico. This is even after already being identified as an Alumni who graduated with honor society recognition in their system from 2003. What we have is yet another case where uneducated Americans don't have common sense to know that Puerto Ricans are US citizens and continue to disrespect the wonderful island culture. A similar encounter occurred at a car rental business at a New Orleans airport with a retired federal law enforcement officer from Puerto Rico.

The veteran, who wishes to remain anonymous, graduated in 2003 with Honor Society recognition in his major from Lamba Pi Eta, the National Communication Association's official honor society. He also graduated with High Honors and with Phi Theta Kappa honors from Broward College in 2001. The veteran joined the military two months after graduation from FAU, deploying five times and earning the Iraq Campaign Medal. He is also 100% disabled permanently and totally, and was already enrolled with the GI Bill and the VA was ready to pay for the veteran's tuition immediately before this occurred. And the biggest insult, the veteran was previously awarded the prestigious NATAS, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences scholarship from the professional association best known for its Emmy Awards when he previously attended FAU.
