1-Year-Old Dies In 3rd Georgia Hot Car Death Of 2022: Report

The child died after being left in the car outside a Walgreens where the mother worked, WXIA Atlanta reports.

DANIELSVILLE, GA — A 1-year-old child died after being left in a hot car outside a Walgreens in Danielsville on Thursday, according to a report from WXIA Atlanta.

The infant was left outside the store located at 380 General Daniel Ave. North around 1:30 p.m. while the mother, who is an employee, was inside for an unknown amount of time before she discovered the child. The infant was taken to a hospital, where it died of its injuries, according to the report.

Authorities estimate the child was in the car for at least three hours with temperatures in the vehicle reaching 100 degrees, according to the report.

The death is the third involving a child left in a hot car in Georgia this year, according to Kids and Car Safety, an organization which tracks such incidents. A 3-year-old boy died after being accidentally left in a car outside a Wendy's in Columbus on June 26.

An 8-month-old girl was found dead in a car outside the Snellville City Hall on May 3 by her grandmother. Her father had gone inside the Snellville Police Department in the same building to retrieve a firearm and was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

In total, 10 children have died from being left in cars unattended in the United States this year, according to the organization.
