5 Things To Do In Georgia Memorial Day Weekend

See where Memorial Day events are taking place across the Peach State.

GEORGIA — Memorial Day is approaching, and Patch has compiled a list of Georgia events for people looking to celebrate next weekend. From a soulful jazz festival to a trip outside of the city, these events aim to honor military troops and provide fun activities for everyone.

Hosted by Zoo Atlanta, organizers say Brew at the Zoo is an event for the adults.

Brew at the Zoo is set to be held from 6-9:30 p.m., May 27, 800 Cherokee Ave. in Atlanta. VIP early entry will from 5-6 p.m. Attendees must be age 21 and older, and IDs will be checked at the door. There will be beer and wine sampling, yard games, animal feedings and food. Participating breweries include SweetWater Brewing Company, Wild Leap Craft Beer, Pretoria Fields and Blake's Hard Cider. The Geeks, DJ DMark and The Dirty Truth will perform.

Member general admission tickets are $60. Non-member general admission tickets are $70. VIP tickets are $120.

The tunes of Ledisi and Tony Hightower will be heard at the 47th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival.

The free event is scheduled for 11 a.m.-11 p.m., May 27-29, at Piedmont Park, 1320 Monroe Drive NE, and will feature 15 artists.

"An annual celebration of the music, culture and art of jazz begins in April and culminates each Memorial Day weekend, with an outdoor festival featuring jazz artists from all over the world," organizers said on the event website.

"The mission of the Atlanta Jazz Festival is to expose and entertain a diverse audience of Jazz aficionados, young Jazz enthusiasts and aspiring musicians to the rich heritage and variety of Jazz as an authentic form of American music."

Aside from Ledisi and Hightower, the lineup for the three-day concert includes Jose James, Brandee Younger, David Sanchez and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.

Stone Mountain Park's Memorial Day activities will honor military troops.

Attractions at the park will open from 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m., May 26, and from 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m., May 27-29, with the Music Across America Light Show planned for 9:30 p.m. both days. The park is located at 1000 Robert E. Lee Blvd.

Active duty, veterans and retired military personnel will receive a free attractions ticket with a valid ID. Organizers said savings of up to 35 percent off per person for immediate family members at the ticket plaza inside the park will be available.

The Air National Guard Band of the South will perform during the evenings May 27-29, including a flag folding ceremony, organizers said.

For people who do not mind doing a bit of traveling, the 63rd Annual Masters Water Ski and Wakeboard Tournament will be held at Callaway Resort and Gardens.

The resort in Pine Mountain is a little longer than an hour from Atlanta and sits near Robin Lake Beach. The tournament will be held from May 26-28. Family-friendly beach activities and fireworks are planned, organizers said.

Adult gardens tickets range from $26.95-$69.95 while pavilion tickets range from $70-$165.

Callaway Gardens is located at 17617 U.S. Highway 27 in Pine Mountain.

Acworth is organizing a Memorial Day ceremony on May 27, honoring members of the military.

The event will held from 10-11 a.m. in Cauble Park at Patriots Point, 4425 Beach St.

"Veterans and current servicemen will pay tribute to brave men and women who have fought and died for our nation. Engraved pavers dedicated to those who have served in our armed forces that have been purchased since the previous Veterans Day will be presented at the event," organizers said on the event website.
