GA Woman, 28, Paralyzed After Routine Chiropractor Visit: Family

A Savannah woman is paralyzed after a neck adjustment from a chiropractor, according to family.

GEORGIA — A Georgia woman and recent college graduate is now paralyzed after visiting her chiropractor.

Caitlin Jensen, 28, graduated from Georgia Southern University in May with a master’s degree in Chemistry and Biology, according to a GoFundMe created by the family. They said Jensen went in June 16 for an adjustment to her neck, became ill and was rushed to an ER in Savannah. Tests later revealed four dissected arteries in her neck, which led to cardiac arrest and traumatic brain injury.

“Caitlin has a long road to recovery, and as a college student who has a very simple health care plan, she will need significant financial resources to get her through this road to recovery,” according to the post.

The post said she’s conscious and can respond to verbal commands through blinking and wiggling toes on her left foot.

“However, the rest of her body sits in a state of paralysis due to the injury,” the post read.
“That morning we were up and talking to her before work. You're talking to her and then 30 minutes later, she's in the hospital and now in the ICU,” Jensen’s brother Caleb Johnson told WJCL-TV.

WJCL talked to Dr. Steve Ranicki, a chiropractor, who said Jensen’s injury is extremely rare.

Darlene Jensen, Caitlin’s mother, told WSB-TV that her daughter’s doctors believe the injury was caused by the neck adjustment.
