GA Weather: Hazardous Weather Outlook In Effect 4th Of July Weekend

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast for GA before Independence Day weekend.

GEORGIA — A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for much of the metro Atlanta area over the Fourth of July weekend, forecasters said.

Temperatures will be in the high 80s and there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered thunderstorms, strong to damaging winds and frequent lightning in the Atlanta area are likely Friday afternoon through Monday night, according to the weather service. More severe weather is possible through the rest of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

"During late June and early July, with the days being so long and resulting in many hours of heating from intense sunshine, any thunderstorm that erupts can become severe for a short time,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Bandon Buckingham said.

The chance of rain is 42 percent Friday, but chances increase to 51 percent by 9 p.m., according to AccuWeather. Temperatures are expected to hit a high of 84 degrees.

On Saturday, temperatures are expected to reach 89 degrees with a 40 percent chance of rainfall and 24 percent chance of thunderstorms.

Sunday's high is forecast to be 90 with a 33 percent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. It’ll be humid with sunshine and patchy clouds.

The high is expected to reach 90 degrees on the Fourth of July, with a 55 percent chance of rainfall and a 33 percent chance of thunderstorms.

The following counties are included in the hazardous weather outlook: Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Macon, Paulding, and Walton counties.
