Acworth Woman Killed in I-75 Crash

Mary Davis reportedly swerved her SUV to avoid another vehicle in Marietta.

Acworth resident Mary Davis, 59, died Saturday after being ejected from the Ford Explorer she was driving in a rollover crash on Interstate 75 in Marietta, police and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution report.

The initial investigation by the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program unit found that the Explorer overturned about 11:35 a.m. Saturday when Davis swerved to avoid another vehicle, according to a police announcement through Nixle. The Explorer was southbound on I-75 just south of the North Marietta Parkway.

The Explorer rolled over serveral times, and the driver was thrown from the vehicle. An adult in the front passenger seat was trapped in the SUV, while a 4-year-old in the back seat suffered minor injuries, police reported.

The adult passenger was Davis' daughter, Leslie Davis, 43, the AJC reports, while the 4-year-old in the back was Leslie Davis' nephew.

The two adults were taken to in critical condition, and the child was taken to in Sandy Springs in stable condition.

Mary Davis died at the hospital later Saturday, while her daughter remained in critical condition, Marietta police told the AJC.

The accident and the investigation closed three lanes of southbound I-75 for more than an hour and backed up traffic into Kennesaw.

Police said no charges are expected against other drivers, but the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Stephen Miller at 770-794-5356.
