South Cobb Dr. Closed for 12-14 Hours

Around 5:30 p.m. Monday, a vehicle struck a power pole and caused lines to fall into the roadway.

If the stretch of South Cobb Drive from Cobb Parkway to Fairground Street is part of your morning commute, plan an alternative route.

It is closed for the next 12 to 14 hours after a traffic crash in the area, said Officer Mike Bowman, the spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department.

"The pole is broken and in order for them to repair the pole, repair the wires and restore the power, it's going to take 12 to 14 hours," he said. It "will cut into rush hour traffic in the morning."

Bowman did not know how many vehicles were involved in the traffic crash, how many people are out of power or what power company services the area.

Two adults and a child were involved in the crash, he said.

Officials with Lockheed Martin and the Cobb County School District have been notified that all lanes of South Cobb Drive are blocked, Bowman said.
