Police Search For Suspect After Teen Shot Near Cobb School

UPDATE: "Baker Elementary School was on lock down earlier but has since reopened," Kennesaw police say. Police are looking for the shooter.

ACWORTH, GA — After a teenager was shot Thursday, Baker Elementary School in Cobb County was briefly put on lockdown, Patch has learned.

The shooting occurred in a subdivision in the vicinity of the school, which was locked down as a precaution, according to Kennesaw police.

Officers on the Kennesaw force responded to a person shot call in the area of Clairesbrook Lane in the Brookwood Commons subdivision about 11:30 a.m., police said.

"Upon arrival, officers confirmed there was a gunshot victim. The victim was immediately transported to the hospital. Kennesaw Officers are at both the hospital and the incident scene investigating and canvassing the area," police said in a statement.

"Baker Elementary School was on lock down earlier but has since reopened. There is no danger to the public school at this time," police said.

According to WSB-TV, a 16-year-old was wounded in the incident, but told police varying stories on how it happened. Images from news choppers show law enforcement officers combing a woodsy area behind big homes' manicured lawns.
