Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back and get involved in your community. Fortunately for folks in the Athens area, there’s no shortage of organizations nearby that would love to have your help.

Here are five outstanding volunteer organizations in the Athens area.

1. Athens Area Humane Society: With adoption services for companion animals, this organization works to rescue and rehome animals in need. The Athens Area Humane Society has a clinic for spay and neuter procedures, as well as a Pet Food Pantry Program for pet owners who are in need. 2. Food Bank of Northeast Georgia: Since 1992, this organization has worked to fight hunger in the community by distributing food to local agencies and individuals in need. The Food Bank operates a mobile pantry and also has programs for senior and child nutrition. Learn more at foodbanknega.org.

3. Athens Area Homeless Shelter: This shelter provides temporary housing and support services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness. 4. Athens Regional Library System: With 11 branches, including five in Athens-Clarke County, the library works to connect the community with resources that promote life-long learning.
