The News Literacy Project is focused on combating the growing problem of news illiteracy and the spread of fake news with online resources such as RumorGuard, Checkology and their app, Informable. These platforms emphasize the importance of fact checking the news and encourage learners to identify credible information. They also contain tips and tricks to help build news literacy and evaluate claims seen online.

β€œOur goal is to get the Athens community excited about news literacy and participate in the global movement,” said Megan Silverman, Debunked campaign member.

The event will work in the form of a game, where those who answer an educational question surrounding fake news from the Informable app will win a Dunkin’ Donuts donut. Categories include β€œnews or opinion,” β€œevidence or not” and more, creating a fun way to test people’s knowledge and susceptibility to false information presented in the news.
