Deputies also handled a disturbing neglect case in a maggot-infested Bogart home and noted a separate death investigation involving an Athens man struck by a CSX train in Athens.

Man falls from Fred Building in downtown Athens (classiccitynews.com) — A 24-year-old Augusta man was seriously hurt after falling about 20 feet from the Fred Building in downtown Athens’ College Square early on December 7. Police say he appeared intoxicated, lost consciousness before transport, and there’s currently no indication the fall was anything but accidental.

Photo Gallery: Athens Residents Protest U.S. Attack on Venezuela (flagpole.com) — More than 100 Athens-area residents turned out Monday for two protests opposing the recent U.S. attack on Venezuela, gathering downtown at the Arch and along Alps Road near Baxter Street. Organized by local progressive and Democratic groups, the demonstrations focused on concerns about regime change, oil interests, and the Trump administration’s actions.
