• ACC Mayor and Commission meeting addresses impediments to public areas (wuga.org) — Athens-Clarke County commissioners unanimously approved an ordinance amendment tightening definitions of interference in public areas, which could affect unhoused residents downtown. Officials stressed they do not want to criminalize homelessness, urging ACCPD to enforce the rules with care while still protecting businesses whose doorways are being blocked.
   

• Name released for man killed in fiery Christmas day crash in Athens (onlineathens.com) — Athens-Clarke police have identified the driver killed in a fiery single-car crash on Christmas morning as 36-year-old Athens resident Edwin Webb, whose car hit a tree near Barnett Shoals and Gaines School roads and burst into flames. Officials note this was one of several deadly crashes in Athens-Clarke County in December, a month that saw multiple local residents lose their lives on area roads.
