Missing 12-Year-Old Found Fatally Shot

Grandmother had reported the boy missing after he left home to visit a friend the day before; he was found less than half a mile away.

ATLANTA — Police are investigating the shooting of a 12-year-old in southwest Atlanta who had been reported missing Tuesday night.

Officers were called to the 1900 block of Shirley Street in the Westwood Terrace neighborhood around 1:48 p.m., according to police reports.

They arrived to find the boy dead from apparent gunshot wounds, police said.

Tuesday, shortly before 11 p.m., the boy's grandmother had called to report that he had not returned home after leaving earlier in the day to go to a friend's house, police said.

Officers canvased the area looking for the missing boy and posted a look-out alert with other agencies in the region. The location where he was found the next day was less than half a mile from his home.
