14 Fatal Crashes, Over 400 DUI Arrests Made On Memorial Day Weekend In GA
Thousands of drivers were cited for seatbelt violations, distracted driving and child restraints in Georgia during the Memorial Day weekend.
GEORGIA — Fourteen people were killed in multiple crashes over the Memorial Day weekend, and more than 400 DUI arrests were made, the Georgia State Patrol said late Wednesday in a report.
The state law enforcement agency joined local authorities in monitoring traffic from 6 p.m. Friday until 11:59 p.m. Monday during the holiday travel period.
Authorities in Clayton, Cobb, Richmond and Gwinnett counties — as well as the cities of Douglasville and South Fulton — reported 10 fatal crashes during the holiday weekend. The GSP responded to four deadly crashes across Georgia.

In total, troopers investigated more than 390 traffic crashes that caused nearly 189 injuries, the GSP said.

While the number of fatal crashes rose by three from the 2024 Memorial Day weekend in Georgia, the amount of crashes and injuries decreased year-over-year.
As for other data, troopers and Motor Carrier Compliance Division officers conducted at least 26,200 traffic stops and arrested nearly 410 people on charges of driving under the influence, the GSP said.
More than 18,000 warnings and at least 13,000 citations to include 1,050 for distracted driving, 1,800 for seatbelt violations and more than 300 for child restraints were given.
Off the roads, 29 people received citations for boating under the influence, and four people were injured in unrelated incidents, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, citing the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
