15 Killed On GA Roads Over Labor Day Weekend, Officials Say

Multiple crashes involved drivers who were suspected of being under the influence, Georgia public safety officials said.

Fifteen people were killed on Georgia roads over the Labor Day holiday weekend, state public safety officials said Tuesday.

State troopers and other law enforcement agencies responded to 284 crashes during the holiday travel period, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety. Officials said 151 people were injured in the crashes.

"Our mission remains focused on saving lives and reducing crashes," officials said. "Thank you to everyone who made safe driving choices this holiday period."

According to state data, 36 crashes involved drivers who were suspected of being under the influence, and 13 involved commercial vehicles.

Additionally, authorities issued 425 citations for driving under the influence, 702 for distracted driving and 1,094 for failure to wear a seat belt.
